Why is Maths so important?

Mathematics is important for everyday life. It helps children make sense of the world around them and gives them the tools to communicate with others. Whether it is simply buying a quantity of something, thinking about the trajectory and speed of a ball, trying to understand an aeroplane in flight, this subject is key for promoting logical thinking and problem solving abilities.

It is also invaluable for success in science, technology and engineering and planning for future careers.

Your child will be invited to participate in Maths quizzes in order that we can gauge their level of achievement and pin-point areas where they would benefit from additional support. This will also take into account, preparation for school assessments and entrance examinations.

The following table is an example of the guidelines for testing Maths achievement in Year 1 Key Stage 1.
